A planet is considered retrograde when it appears to move backwards in the sky relative to the earth. However, in astrology it’s much deeper. As our messenger mythos and trickster, Mercury retrograde represents a RE-direction of travel: Within, in the pursuit of truth and balance. It’s a RE-wiring. Mercury is the planet that governs communication and flow of ideas, and in our modern world this encompasses travel, technology - and therein lies its reputation for making things go haywire. But these frustrations and upsets can be worked with as allies, protecting us from what we want so that we can rest from outer pursuit and see what we need if we understand how to work with them.
